The Leggings Test: What Actually Makes a Good Pair of Leggings?

Let’s be honest: not all leggings are created equal.

We’ve all been there. You find a pair that looks amazing online, put them on and suddenly you’re spending your entire workout pulling them up, adjusting the waistband, checking whether they’re see-through and wondering why the back is doing absolutely nothing for you.

Leggings should make your life easier, not become another thing you have to think about.

So, what actually makes a good pair of leggings?

At Bossella, we think there are a few non-negotiables.

1. They need to actually stay up

The ultimate leggings test: can you squat, walk, run, stretch and sit down without pulling them back up every five minutes?

A good waistband should feel secure without feeling like it's cutting you in half.

Our leggings are designed with a supportive waistband that stays put while you move, so you can focus on your workout rather than wondering where your leggings have disappeared to.

2. Squat-proof isn't optional

We said what we said.

Nobody wants to discover halfway through a workout that their leggings are significantly more transparent than they thought.

Good leggings should give you confidence to move, bend, stretch and squat without constantly checking what's going on behind you.

Squat-proof = non-negotiable.

Whether you're lifting, running, doing Pilates or simply reaching for something on the bottom shelf in Tesco, you deserve leggings you can actually trust.

3. The waistband matters more than you think

A waistband can make or break a pair of leggings.

Too tight? Uncomfortable.

Too loose? Constantly slipping.

Too low? You're spending your entire day trying to keep everything where it belongs.

We believe your leggings should work with your body rather than against it.

That's why fit and comfort are at the heart of our designs, because leggings aren't just gym wear anymore. They're what you wear to the gym, on the school run, to grab a coffee, on a walk and probably the rest of the day too.

4. Pockets. Always pockets.

Why are women's clothes still sometimes made without pockets?

We're not sure either.

A genuinely good pair of leggings should have somewhere to put your phone, keys or card when you don't want to carry a bag.

Our leggings feature practical pockets because we believe your gymwear should be designed for real life, not just standing in front of a mirror.

5. They should move with you

Your leggings shouldn't restrict how you move.

Whether you're squatting, stretching, running, lifting or sitting cross-legged on the floor, the fabric needs to move with your body.

The best leggings feel like a second skin, supportive enough to give you confidence but comfortable enough that you forget you're wearing them.

And honestly? That's the goal.

6. They need to survive more than one workout

A good pair of leggings shouldn't be a one-season purchase.

Between gym sessions, washing machines, long walks, coffee runs and everything else life throws at them, your leggings need to keep their shape and feel good wear after wear.

Because if you've found the pair, you want to wear them again.

And again.

And again.

In fact, we're big believers in outfit repeating.

7. They should make you feel good

This one might be the most important.

There's no single "gym body", and there's no single way leggings should look.

Good gym wear should make you feel comfortable, confident and ready to move, whatever your size, shape or workout.

At Bossella, our philosophy is simple:

Every body is a gym body.

We design with real women in mind, focusing on comfort, functionality and flattering fits that work with different bodies rather than expecting bodies to fit into one particular mould.

So... what's the verdict?

The perfect pair of leggings should pass the test:

  • Stay up while you move

  • Be squat-proof

  • Feel supportive without being restrictive

  • Have practical pockets

  • Move with your body

  • Survive repeated wear and washing

  • Make you feel comfortable and confident

Because leggings shouldn't be something you constantly have to adjust, check or think about.

They should just work.

When you find a pair that does?

Congratulations. You've found your new outfit repeater.
